One day in Stockholm

Reading time: 5 minutes

Only one day in Stockholm? Here is a guide to help you experience the city's absolute highlights — from the historic alleys of Old Town to modern Norrmalm and beautiful viewpoints.

Stockholm City Hall

Early morning: Stockholm City Hall

Within walking distance from Old Town (Gamla Stan)

Stockholm City Hall is one of the city's most iconic buildings and well worth a visit. Enjoy the magnificent view across Riddarfjärden, experience the impressive Blue Hall where the Nobel banquet is held each year, and the splendid Golden Hall. If you have time, a guided tour is recommended — it is the only way to see the City Hall's famous halls and learn about its fascinating history and architecture. (Tower opens 9:00 book ticket before, if no free slots for tower start with Old Town before City Hall) https://stadshuset.stockholm/besok-stadshuset/

Old Town

Late morning: Old Town (Gamla Stan)

Start the day with a walk through the cozy alleys of Gamla Stan. Visit Stortorget, Storkyrkan and the Royal Palace. Have a fika at one of the charming cafés along Västerlånggatan.

Djurgårdsbron with view towards Strandvägen

Afternoon: Djurgården

Take the ferry from Gamla Stan or Nybrokajen, hop on the tram from Nybroplan, or walk along the beautiful Strandvägen. On the way to Djurgården you are treated to a fantastic view over Stockholm's waters before you reach the Vasa Museum, green parks and some of the city's most popular attractions.

Strömma boat

Evening: Södermalm

Finish the day on Södermalm with dinner at one of the area's many popular restaurants. Then take a stroll up to Monteliusvägen, one of Stockholm's most beloved viewpoints. From here you get a fantastic panoramic view of Riddarfjärden, Stockholm City Hall, Old Town and Kungsholmen — especially beautiful at sunset.
